The tournament
The FIFA Women's Series is a new invitational event that gives national teams friendly matches against opponents from other confederations. The 2026 edition had four four-team series in four host countries during the 9–18 April international window.
The Nairobi series, on 11 and 15 April, featured Kenya, Malawi, Australia and India.
How Kenya did
Kenya's women's team, the Harambee Starlets, beat India and lost to Australia, finishing as runners-up and receiving their medals in front of a home crowd.
Why it matters
Regular matches against strong teams from other continents are rare for many African women's sides. The series gave Kenyan players top-level experience at home. Malawi, who played in Nairobi, went on to reach the WAFCON final and qualify for the 2027 World Cup.
