Mamelodi Sundowns are champions of Africa again

South Africa's Mamelodi Sundowns won the CAF Champions League for the second time on 24 May 2026, beating Morocco's AS FAR 2-1 on aggregate in the two-legged final.
How it was won
Sundowns won the first leg 1-0 at Loftus Versfeld in Pretoria on 17 May. In the second leg in Rabat, AS FAR's Mohamed Hrimat scored a penalty in the 40th minute to level the tie.
But in first-half stoppage time, Teboho Mokoena struck to restore Sundowns' lead on aggregate. In the second half, goalkeeper Ronwen Williams saved another Hrimat penalty to keep AS FAR out. The match ended 1-1.
What's next
The win makes Sundowns Africa's club champions and gives them a place in FIFA's Intercontinental Cup, against the champions of other confederations.
It has been a strong year for South African football. The national team, Bafana Bafana, reached the World Cup knockout stage for the first time.
